The
Richmond Outreach Center (ROC), a megachurch in Virginia, is selling
its original worship sanctuary that has been on the market since former
senior pastor Geronimo Aguilar resigned, after being charged of sexual
aggravation of two minors.
The nearly 70,000 square foot property, listed for
$2.6 million, was the ROC's first church building before moving to
their current location in 2010. Since then, the building has been leased
to a Christian private school, the Elijah Academy, that is now moving
to another location in Richmond, which prompted the ROC to list the
property on the market.
"We were talking about selling the
property months before they were losing their tenants...it's just been a
domino effect," said Berry Hofheimer, the selling real estate agent, to
The Christian Post. "There has been an unbelievable amount of interest
in the property. One group came back yesterday for the third time and
the property will be under contract shortly and hopefully sold before
the end of the year."
Hofheimer also made clear the ROC's decision
to sell its building is unrelated to Aguilar's sex scandal but due in
part to their interest in acquiring additional funds for their buses,
which transport many members to their megachurch services and
activities.
Currently, the sale of the property is not ROC's main priority due to other major issues it now face.
"The
Richmond Outreach Center is focusing upon the daily ministries of The
ROC in the Greater Richmond area and spending a considerable amount of
time in the beginning stages of our search for a new senior pastor.
These are our highest priorities," a spokesperson, who asked not to be
identified, told CP on Friday.
Three
additional ministers resigned along with Aguilar in June, causing a
major hole in the church's leadership. The ROC board of directors had
previously stated that it is focusing on a nationwide search to hire an
interim pastor to lead worship services and expects to bring a full-time
senior pastor on board within the next year.
Aguilar is currently
out on bond and living in a $600,000 ROC parsonage, which he and his
family will eventually have to move out of. He is awaiting his trial to
begin in Fort Worth, Texas, and faces up to life in prison if convicted
of seven felony charges.
In
anticipation of a nationwide evangelism event this November to coincide
with his 95th birthday, renowned preacher Billy Graham released a
letter through his association this week in which he says that America
needs a spiritual awakening more than ever before.
"If ever there was a time this country needed the intervention of God, it is now," writes Graham in the letter published
on the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website. "We can and
should pray for America as a whole, but remember that when God sets out
to change a nation, He begins by changing people. It starts with
individuals."
Graham said that there are a lot of things that his
health and strength no longer permit him to do, but that there are still
many things he can do, "and one of them is pray." He writes that he is
praying fervently for "a fresh spiritual awakening in America."
The
"My Hope America with Billy Graham" project that will culminate in
November with a video/TV special will feature new footage of Graham
giving an evangelistic message. BGEA encourages participants to reach
out to people they already know and engage in meaningful conversation
and connections as a catalyst for sharing the hope and love found in a
relationship with Jesus Christ.
While one-on-one conversations
will be the root of this relationship evangelism outreach, there will be
special evangelistic programs available in a wide range of formats
including TV, DVD and Internet that people can share to reinforce the
message. The programs will feature life-changing testimonies and
powerful messages from Billy Graham.
The first evangelistic program was released in March entitled Defining Moments.
It features the stories of three individuals – illusionist Jim Munroe,
NFL player David Tyree and musical artist Lacey Sturm – who found
success in their careers yet were still searching for hope. The second
program in the series – Lose to Gain –
was released in June. It follows the stories of skateboarder Brian
Sumner, comedian Michael Jr. and young professional Shannon Culpepper,
each searching for something this world ultimately couldn't provide.
These
programs, along with additional programs under development, and
Graham's message, will serve as the evangelistic thrust behind the
implementation of the project in November, says BGEA.
"Along with
all the encouraging visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren
this summer, I've had a video camera crew helping me tape, from my home,
the things I feel strongly that God is leading me to say to America,"
writes Graham. "Please pray that God will work in the completion of this
program and that He will use it in a mighty way.
"You can invite
people you know to watch the program with you in November. Ask God to
touch their hearts as they watch. Thousands and thousands of believers
in every part of the country are preparing to do that."
Graham
encourages each Christian to make sure their pastor knows about the My
Hope America project. More than 16,000 churches in all 50 states have
signed up to participate so far. He also asks people to sign up for the
outreach project as an individual.
"This is a huge undertaking,
but we strongly believe the outreach and all needed materials should
remain free of charge to those who participate," states Graham. "We are
trusting God for the financial resources, and we are asking Him to lay
it on your heart to help with a generous and sacrificial gift for My
Hope America.
"Most of all, we ask for your prayers and
participation so that the hope of the Gospel can touch not only people
across the nation, but people you personally know and care about."
It is a new season, a new year to
celebrate another milestone in the life of the great apostolic and prophetic Christian
ministry superintended by the humble, diligent, unassuming and dynamic man of
God, Dr. James Oluwole Akanbi. The
ministry is the God’s Mercy Revival Ministries (GOMERM) born 14 years ago with
a strong mission to counter the revival of the devil at this end –time.
Dr. James Oluwole Akanbi, General Overseer, GOMERM
Sunday August 11, 2013 marks the
beginning of another year for the church to consolidate on the previous year’s
spiritual gains and also gather more saints for the great task of waging serious
war against the antics of the devil.
The day will feature prophetic
impartation and anointing service to hold at the Foursquare Church Camp Ground,
Orisunmbare, Pipeline, Idimu, Lagos, Nigeria. The team of the ‘From Destination
to Destiny: Time for Prophetic Transfiguration.
According to Pastor Joseph Olorunfemi, the Director of Crusades and Missions, the Power Conference which is the climax of a
three –day activities lined up to celebrate the season, is expected to host no less than 10,000 Christian worshippers
including visitors and members of the church at home and abroad.
Activities lined up for the annual
conference tagged ‘Zion 2013’ include Revival Hour slated for August 8 and 9,
2013 at the impressive Headquarters auditorium of the church situated on 2/4
Femi Bankole Close, Pab Bus stop, Arida, Ikotun, Lagos, Nigeria. Each day
service starts at 6pm prompt and the visiting ministers of God billed
to preside on each day include Pastor Aanu Ojo and Prophet Ogundare of the
Christ Apostolic Church.
For easy access to the venue of
the Power Conference, especially for new visitors, the church has concluded
plans to provide free shuttle services with buses that will be positioned at
locations around the host local government area.
The celebration is an annual
tradition which started 13 years ago at the place of origin of the church, Baba
Oba, along Egbeda –Idimu Road, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State in
Nigeria ans subsequently held an its camp ground in Ofada, Ogun State. The
decision to hold this year’s conference at the Foursquare Camp Ground according
to one of the church elders is to greatly reach out to people in the city with
the gospel of Christ Jesus.
GOMERM’s annual conference apart
from being a forum to celebrate another milestone in the life of the church is
also aimed at spreading the word of God beyond the walls of the church. It is
also a life changing event from which great testimonies have always emerged.
See below some of the life
changing experiences of people that took part in the previous conference.
INCESSANT STILL BIRTH SUCCUMBED TO PROPHETIC ORDER
Sister Aina was at the last
conference with problem of regular still birth spanning five years. After a
prophetic intervention and powerful prayer, she became pregnant again and today
she is carrying her baby girl, thus disgracing the power behind her ordeal.
TEN YEAR BARRENESS TERMINATED
It was just a prophetic word
statement that “God has answered a career woman who is looking for the fruit of
the womb” that opened the miracle for Sister B. She was at the Ofada conference
in one of the previous years and from that anointing, the sister who had been
barren for 10 years became pregnant the month after the conference and she is
now a mother.
DEBTOR PAY BACK DEBT, BLESSED WITH A CAR
Brother J.had a troubling debt of over half -of -a million
hanging on him as at the time he
attended the conference at Ofada, He cried unto the God of mercy and his debt
was miraculously liquidated after meeting a benefactor. Within a space of three
months the brother who was hitherto living through a hard time acquired a brand
new car to the glory of God.
FIBROID, OVARIAN CYST BOWED TO GOD OF MERCY
“Last year I told God to heal me
by a divine operation as the man of God was ministering. After the conference I
saw a doctor coming to me in my dream and took something out of my intestine
and I woke up. When I went back to the hospital for test, I was told that the
fibroid and ovarian cyst had disappeared. Praise God!” This is the testimony of
Sister Funmi who attended the conference with the problems of fibroid and
ovarian cyst already scheduled for surgical operation by medical doctors at a
cost of 400,000 naira.
SEVEN- POINT PRAYERS ANSWERED
“I bless the name of the Lord God
of Zion. Last year during the conference, I wrote seven-point prayers and presented
before God. These include examination success for my husband a visa to pursue
his post graduate course in the United Kingdom, provision of a good job and
healing from hypertension. To the glory of God all the prayer points were
answered.”
CHANGE OF GENOTYPE AND HEALING OF 26 YEARS RHEUMATISM
“It must be a miracle.” This was
the submission of a group of doctors who were stunned by the work of God in the
life of their patient, Sister Yemi. Indeed it was a miracle for the doctors who
discovered that what man cannot do, the Lord Jesus Christ can do. During one of
the past conference, the Lord used the case of Sister Yemi to prove the point
as established in the Bible that he can do all things. The sister has been down
with 26 -year- old rheumatism, the product of what the doctors diagnosed as uncommon
genotype. But in his wonderful ways, during ministration by the man of God she
was touched and her situation changed- genotype corrected, no more rheumatism.
One of the most successful coaches in the state of
Alabama is suddenly out of a job after he was dismissed for what
initially seems to be a remarkably trivial reason: He attends the wrong
church.
East Memorial Christian Academy, here playing in blue, is without its coach weeks before kickoff — BeRecruited
As reported by the Montgomery Advertiser, Prattville (Ala.) East Memorial Christian Academy super coach Scott Phillips,
who led the school’s football program to its first state playoff birth
in years and coached the boys basketball team to the first state title
in any sport, was dismissed because he refused to force his family to attend East Memorial Baptist Church.
While Phillips had never been forced to attend the school’s
affiliated church when he was only a coach, that changed when he became
the school’s athletic director. As confirmed by the Advertiser, East
Memorial Christian Academy’s athletic director was expected to attend
the East Memorial Baptist Church, even though there was allegedly not an official clause in the contract requiring such attendance.
Now former East Memorial Christian Academy coach Scott Phillips — USA Today/Montgomery Advertiser
Phillips tried to make that work, getting his family to start each
Sunday at a 9 a.m. service at East Memorial before attending an 11 a.m.
service at his family’s church of choice, Church of the Highlands.
Eventually that routine began to make Phillips feel dishonest, leading
to a conversation with East Memorial officials where the coach and AD told them he didn’t feel comfortable attending Sunday services at East Memorial Baptist.
That was the last conversation he would have as the school’s AD.
"I was 30 seconds from turning the job down because of the church
issue," Phillips told the Advertiser. "They wanted me to transition from
the Church of the Highlands to East Memorial. I never really liked
that, so I went back in my administrator’s office and told them I was
willing to give this a try, but I don’t know how this will work out?
"That was the last thing said."
Phillips insists that he tried to shift his family from Church of the
Highlands to Eastern Memorial Baptist, but said he never reached any
level of comfort about the decision. Eventually, he had to deal with the
situation head-on, hoping that Eastern Memorial officials would be
reasonable about his faith.
